Spillage Response Awareness Training

Can I Manage this Spillage?

Before cleaning up a spillage you first need to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is the spillage less than 1 gallon?
  • Is the spillage of a chemical I have been trained to use?
  • Can I safely contain the spillage?
  • Is there a spill kit available, in a designated area and clearly marked for which type of chemical it is to be used for?

Generally, you should only ever attempt to clean up spillages of 1 gallon or less.

You should never attempt to clean up a chemical with which you are untrained to safely use.

It is a legal requirement to immediately report larger spillages or

spillages of reactive or other highly toxic materials to your supervisor or manager.

They must then report the spillage to the relevant authorities.
